James Joseph Dawson

(Diocese of Argyll and the Isles) Born in Huntly, 19th March 1858; left, due to ill health, 4th August 1875; to Issy, January 1877, and ordained a priest in Paris, 11th June 1881; professor in the college, 14th September 1886 to 5th April 1890; died in Rothesay, 26th June 1903.

Parish records have James Dawson's date of birth as 18th March 1858. He was the son of George Dawson and Margaret Anton.

The Rev. James J. Dawson was born at Huntly on the 19th March, 1858 ; entered Blairs College in July, 1869; and was sent to the Scots College, Valladolid, in October, 1872. A severe illness obliged him to return to Scotland in August, 1875. After his restoration to health he entered the Seminary of Issy in January, 1877. He received the Tonsure there on the 14th June, 1878, and Minor Orders in the Chapel of the. Archiepiscopal Palace, Paris, on the Sth May, 1880; and was ordained Sub-Deacon in the Church of St. Sulpice on the 22nd of the same month, Deacon on the 18th December following, and Priest on the 11th June, 1881, by Mgr. Richard, Coadjutor to the Cardinal Archbishop of Paris. On his return to Scotland he assisted for some time at Oban, and was appointed on the 18th November to the Mission of Eigg.
